Pro Fork Alignment Tool
We've
always aligned our forks by bouncing the bike up and down a few
times before tightening the pinch bolts or spinning the wheel and
grabbing the front break repeatedly. Recently though
we've started using the MP Fork Tool to align the fork legs on all
our bikes.
This
may seem like a simple thing but we've found that, no matter how
carefully you install your front wheels, they're almost always slightly
out of alignment once the pinch bolts are tightened. Why does this
matter? Improper alignment means your forks can bind under compression.
This affects your bike's overall handling and is especially noticeable
on small bumps and trail trash since the forks resist movement.
The other problem with fork legs that are not parallel is you're
seals won't last due to the added lateral pressures on the fork
tubes.
This
tool is very easy to use. Just set the adjustment somewhere
on the forks for reference and slide the tool up and down the forks
making note of where they're not in parallel. Once you know this,
it's a simple matter of tightening the pinch bolts while ensuring
the forks are in their proper position!
